Wanna role play? You be Simon Cowell, I’ll be…

…some strange social outcast singing an enthusiastic rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘I’m every woman’ (great song by the way).

Many of you have asked me what prompted me to start a blog. Yes, I was on the hunt for a creative outlet to begin practicing my craft, but more importantly, I wanted to explore whether or not I was good at this. Was I going to be a sub-par writer and no one would tell me? Would I end up like one of those poor Middle American kids that land on American Idol, singing their tone deaf hearts out, all because their friends and family were never honest with them? How sad, yet…disturbingly entertaining.

Thus, my blog was born. I look forward to your comments.

In other news, how about those Oscars? I dare not go on in length seeing as Ben Mulroney has already accomplished that, and further embarrassed Canada a tad with his red carpet antics, waving our flag about like a nutbar. Very cliché Ben. How did he get that job anyway? Did his family name really help him? Yikes. Just call me Heather Vander Zalm in that case. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the show. Jon Stewart continues to rock my world, as did the performance from the film ‘Once’ that won for best song and Clooney was his usual sexy self. As a friend pointed out to me, the Oscars are like Super Bowl Sunday for chicks. I concur - go Oscar go.

Urban Cowgirl - Weekly Wire

Dear inaugural subscribers,

As some of you know, over the past several months, I have been in hot pursuit of a successful career in freelance writing. With a few pieces of published work under my belt, I’ve decided to create this group to help hone my craft and develop an organic approach to my writing. Not organic as in $20 avocado a la urban fare, but organic in the sense that I encourage your feedback and ideas.

The Urban Cowgirl being me – naturally - paying homage to my small town roots and big city lifestyle. The Weekly Wire being an article posted on my blog once a week. My topics will range from rants and random occurrences, to celebrity sightings and the next hipster hang out, from the perspective of a young, professional urbanite. If you are a member of the Vancouver, BC Network on Facebook, search for my group under 'Urban Cowgirl - Weekly Wire'.

No, I have not abandoned my day job as I am still ‘reveling’ in the world of corporate pr and communications. However, I felt it was time to broaden my literary horizon in hopes of establishing myself among the many fabulous columnists, bloggers and online gossips – shout out to Lainey Gossip who just happens to live across the street from me.

As I am trying to find my niche in this industry, I would like to stress that this is not a wine-induced tangent after overdosing on too many Sex in the City reruns. I’m not channeling Carrie Bradshaw, but instead trying to become a writer. So here goes…

Much love and many thanks,
Urban Cowgirl
